About the event
Join us for presentations by local experts about different aspects of the Susquehanna River! Our fourth presentation will be Tuesday, April 29th, 2025 at the Waterman Center. Join Dr. Victor Lamoureux, Department of Biology Professor at Suny Broome for Turtles of the Susquehanna. In 2006, a population of northern map turtles was discovered in the Susquehanna River near Vestal, NY. Research on this population utilized a combination of surveys, trapping, and radio-tracking to learn more. These Map Turtles have been studied for 18 years with 12 trapping seasons. Many hours of kayaking on the Susquehanna also revealed other species of turtles in the River. Come learn about these fascinating creatures that have inhabited the Earth since before the dinosaurs.
